Compete

Guide to Competitions Terminology:

All Skate All competitors in that division share the floor and dance, a bit like social dancing
Spotlights Each competitor or competing couple take it in turns to shine in the middle, a bit like a jam circle
BPM Beats Per Minute, indicating the tempo of a song. For example 140 BPM is quite slow while 315 BPM is super fast
Prelims Preliminary Rounds or Heats, the first stage of the division from which finalists are picked
Finals The Final Round or last stage of the division from which 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners are picked
8 Eights 8 lots of 8 counts, for example the time it takes to dance 8 swing outs in a row.
Strictly Means that you can only dance strictly the type of dance. For example a Strictly Lindy is for Lindy Hop only. You cannot dance Balboa, Shag or Blues. You dance with a partner of your own choosing.

Big Apple Contest
* FREE
any charity donation welcome!
Our MC will call out some classic Big Apple moves and competitors have to dance them! This is more similar to the traditional Big Apple Contest, rather than the Big Apple routine. If you don’t know the moves you can make it up or take inspiration from those around you. This is all about repertoire, confidence and panache, and judges will tap you out if you don’t make it to the next round.

Competitors dance to two songs, approx 170-190 bpm – two rounds of Big Apple Contest, with tap outs each round. Sign up as a couple.
